A wise ruler knows when to offer a hand, when to raise his fists, and when to let go.

ahhh my 2nd favourite archon, incl Furina.
i cant wait for more Zhongli lore
Lucky-Oven54672026-02-02 04:56
To be fair Zhongli loves his nation and very few companions he has left he protects fiercely, yet also with a warmth to it. 🥰
Prestigious_Young5102026-02-02 07:28
He may be retired but that doesn't mean he stops caring about Liyue, they are still his people but this time he just wants to live among them.
Koanos2026-02-02 07:51
> and very few companions he has left he protects fiercely
For good reason, he's lost *a lot* of companions over the years.
notthatjaded2026-02-02 05:00
My mother is retired and yet somehow still found a way to keep working part time at her old place of work. Some people just can't give things up all the way. 🤣
Golden-Owl2026-02-02 05:24
It’s now his hobby, not his job

Zhongli: I am retired.
Xiao: I wanna go to the Chasm.
Zhongli: *secretly follows*

Dependency vs Helping
He wanted Liyue to move away from Depending on him and checked if they could survive, they survived and so Zhong Li retired...
Some things are way beyond human levels like Xiao falling into the Abyss or Zibai dying... In those situations he lends his powers...
mestredastrevas2026-02-02 05:49
He retired from his duty of protecting Liyue. Now he is just helping a friend.
Dramatic_endjingu2026-02-02 05:52
His retirement is the same as Venti retirement, these grandpas😭
Yuukiko_2026-02-02 06:22
venti never retired, he's just the absent father
Koanos2026-02-02 07:51
An Archon of Freedom can't ask it's people to be free, or something like that.
Yuukiko_2026-02-02 08:08
but what if someone wants to be dommed by Venti
Koanos2026-02-02 08:11
The Paradox of Freedom.

Bro is just doing it for the love of the game
Electrical-Call-61602026-02-02 06:09
He's still an archon, all things considered.
Besides, he's also trying to save his friend, Zibai.
LettuceBenis2026-02-02 06:13
He retired from the role of Geo Archon. He is still the Lord Adeptus
coffeeaddictfromcebu2026-02-02 06:30
I don't remember the last one.
But to be fair, it's either this or spending Hutao's money. Hutao is happy for all those funeral contracts from Fontaine, Nod-Krai, and Natlan. Better he be busy saving Liyue than spending another million mora for a jade chopstick from the time of Guili Assembly.
ExpiredExasperation2026-02-02 06:45
>I don't remember the last one.
Chasm quest with Xiao, Yelan, Yanfei, Arataki Itto, Kuki Shinobu, and absolutely *not* Zhongli.
coffeeaddictfromcebu2026-02-02 07:05
I remember the Chasm Quest, but the part where we ask what he was doing at the Chasm. Was it one of those times when hidden interactions were limited to only during the event?
Potential_Job_72972026-02-02 07:12
No. It's a short separate quest after.
masternieva6662026-02-02 14:25
its after chasm quest when we talk with him its so funny how he act dumb by saying his not even there.
Physical-Command21302026-02-02 06:50
don't forget about previous latern rite too
asiangontear2026-02-02 07:14
He's retired from lording over Liyue, not from protecting and helping people.
kazez22026-02-02 07:22
He's retired from governing Liyue, not saving his friends and family
Redwolf4762026-02-02 07:35
These are merely the actions of a concerned citizen or friend In some case not of a non retired archon
Eroica_Pavane2026-02-02 07:40
Bro is so old that he knew Nibelunge (iirc) and has been trying to retire for millenia.
TabbbyWright2026-02-02 08:16
I forgot about his post chasm dialogue... "This fan is of high quality indeed" just like you Zhongli! Perfect character, no notes.
tudeckslore2026-02-02 10:33
Zhongli is actually the kind of dad that insist that you should be strong and independent.
While secretly ready to bail you out in the first sign of trouble <3
SimRacing3132026-02-02 10:39
Zhongli the real MC, except he has already completed his quests and is mostly just chilling and helping others without them knowing
Tentative_Username2026-02-02 11:38
Zhongli: I am rules and order.
Also Zhongli: I am embezzling money from my current boss's company.
yorokek052026-02-02 11:43
Rumors of his retirement are exaggerated.
Miiohau2026-02-02 12:01
He retired from being head of state of Liyue and from tavyat’s mint (as well as any other roles or powers he got from the geo gnosis) . He still has his other roles, including whatever title and powers he gets from the geo throne since he didn’t go to the extreme measures Focalors did to destroy it and he never actually pasted on those powers to a successor (if he even can without dying, we never seen an archon past on the title without dying and that includes Mavuika because she did technically die she just came back to life and regained the title).
Eggyolk572026-02-02 12:01
Scott Cawthon with FNaF be like:
KaedeP_222026-02-02 12:52
retiring doesn't mean stop caring.
Jehphg2026-02-02 12:54
His retirment is pretty much Venti mode: pretends to be mortal. Also keeps protecting his people behind the scenes. Before he was super involved AND public. This way, much like Venti, he allows his people to grow, and at the same time he will help when he thinks is needed
Individual-Praline172026-02-02 12:56
Also isn't Rex Lapis supposed to be dead? Been a while since the archon quests, did the adepti know from the start?
IWokeUpSinging2026-02-02 15:51
Not from the start\* but he did communicate with them in their dreams to let them know what was going on.
\*There are a couple of scenes where the traveller breaks the news to Xiao and Moon Carver that Rex Lapis has "died." Moon Carver gets upset, but Xiao has a strangely subdued reaction that's basically, "Huh. I never thought I'd see the day when he died," and then the dialogue moves on.
But the thing is, Xiao of all people knows what happens when gods die, because he's the one remaining yaksha who's had to take care of god remains for millenia -- their power explodes across the land unless they're sealed, like Xiao and the other yakshas sealed Guizhong. And Rex Lapis being the strongest god Liyue has ever seen, if he had really died, the explosion of his power would have been enormous....and yet that never happened, and neither he nor any of the other adepti were not called upon to seal Rex Lapis' remains.
So IMO Xiao had to have known from the start that Rex Lapis wasn't really dead.

He only retired from the public eye (common humans)
arseholierthanthou2026-02-02 14:02
He's retired from saving Liyue. He'll still save his old friends.
kokko6932026-02-02 14:31
He is not doing the heavy work, just helping.
That's why he has more of an advisor job than anything. People (us) ask him advices when they need help.
Else what he does is enjoying food, tea and theater.

Hey, even a retired grandpa needs hobbies. His is just solving problems while going "Who, me? You're mistaken, it must've been my twin brother Johnli."

Ah yes, the yearly ritual where Zhongli makes fun of Moon Carver for still not being playable.
