Think of it like this. Who's the one character who, if they showed there, would've completely ruined the impact of the current Archon Quest? The one character which, had we known would become playable in the future would undermine the feelings everyone was faced with for weeks by now?
It'll likely be Sandrone, probably with a redesign, as you can't really see a puffy skirt like on her normal appearance, but who knows.

Yeah maybe just an editing artifact without meaning. But maybe it is another character walking in (sandrone?). People speculated that the "shadow" in the water would be her but my money is on this being rerir. >!He is literally caught in the moon's reflection and got a drip marketing already.!<

Rerir and Tholindis are essentially cursed to stay forever in the Moon's Reflection. They're not like Columbina, they don't have a connection to Teyvat anymore. That is his fate, and, for once, he seems to already accept it as what he deserves for everything that has happened.
And idk what to tell you, but Hoyo has a bad history with characters that cover up their faces...

Simple. In aq files he has npc number. Not character id (which u have for playable characters). I mean zibai case is different. It was caused due to archon quest ending (we steal the moon). Rerir's is not like that. We see columbina even struggling to come out of moon's gate(without the thing).

I'm gonna bet my money on Sandrone. Thought is that she will be revived/soul transfer into upgraded/new body of machine as her existing body is also machine & she might get makeover new character design like Hat Guy. Theory story may be focus on her creator might have backup failed copies somewhere in deep fontaine. most of his creation were unsuccessful so vessels were kept and Sandrone was the only one successful outcome. Now those vessel could be used to transfer her to it

I was definitely done on purpose. Reasoning it's a surprise for a character we might not expect, either returning character or new character to the lore. Who knows either Sandrone or Alice are the only available guesses.
