Vegan jelly?
Wat.
Isn't fruit already vegan?
Neospanner2026-02-02 14:48
Fruit is - [but gelatin frequently is not](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelatin).
There are vegan gelatin alternatives, likely used in the desserts in the image, but classic gelatin desserts are made from animal gelatin.

The OP said jelly though, not gelatin.
I kinda figured jello wouldn't be vegan, but jelly? That's different.

Well, that's where you need to look at the pictured image. Those things clearly aren't something you'd spread on toast. So, the author probably isn't American, and "jelly" is the term they use for gelatin dishes like these.

I didn't realize that was the "jelly" tbh, i thought it was still in the process of being made (look at the top left images where they've got them in water with some grain looking stuff). I thought those were the osmanthus.

Speaking as an American, we don't typically called gelatin "jelly." Fruit jellies are pectin based.

Depends on where you live. In a lot of places, except America, fruit jelly is called jam and only the gelatine jelly (as a dessert) is called jelly. It usually contains animal products.

Oh.
Yes i am an American lol.
Here we have
Jelly (shit you spread on a piece of bread to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich)
Jam (same thing kinda but it's easier to spread for some reason)
Preserves (same as the two above but it has a lot more fruit in it)
